Discipline Priest Class Overview
Welcome to my Discipline Priest Healer guide for World of Warcraft WotLK 3.3.5a. This will be a short guide describing what Talents, Glyphs, Gems and Enchants you will need in order to succeed in a raid. In the end of the guide there are also some tips and basic rotation for the class.
Discipline Priest is not your typical healer. It’s a multifunctional support with a full arsenal of spells to make the raid stay alive. Discipline Priest supports the tank / raid healer with his shields, while healing from time to time other players. It’s important to know your role, this is a complicated but very valuable spec.
The first build will be a standard Discipline build. It has survival spells like Spell Warding and Desperate Prayer, but doesn’t go any further into Holy because our main goal is Discipline talents, not hybrid. This build is more for Heroic, where there are other healers as well.
The second one is for players who like to heal with Renew. Suitable for Normals with its lower survivability, when there are no other healers or they heal not enough. Don’t forget to consider using Glyph of Renew with this spec.
Glyph of Penance
Glyph of Flash Heal
Huge mana save combined with other talents. Flash Heal is one of the primary healing spells
Glyph of Prayer of Healing
Take it when you need to heal the whole raid
Glyph of Renew
Last one is for Normals when you don’t have a Restoration Druid or Holy Priest. You might consider taking it, but it’s a bit out of your role.
Gems are used to get your stat caps depending on what you lack, so it is situational.
While placing gems, try to get socket bonuses like 5/7/9 spell damage. Bonuses you can really ignore are stuff like 4 Intellect, 2mp5.
Ember Skyflare Diamond
Runed Cardinal Ruby
Head – Arcanum of Burning Mysteries
Shoulder – Greater Inscription of the Storm
Cloak – Greater Speed
Chest – Powerful Stats
Bracers – Superior Spellpower
Gloves – Exceptional Spellpower
Waist – Eternal Belt Buckle
Legs – Brilliant Spellthread
Boots – Icewalker
Gameplay & Rotations
Your primary role in the raid is to shield and heal. Not just shield, not just heal, but both. It’s important to remember that. Now let’s talk about Rapture. Read this talent carefully. This is your ticket out of “Out Of Mana” situation.
Example of how to use Rapture:
Your main tank is about to be beaten to death. You use Power Word: Shield. Boss hits the tank, the shield is destroyed because it absorbed most of the damage, tank is saved. Good job! Now Rapture will proc.
Same situation. Tank’s about to die. You use Power Word: Shield. But hey, you have 6k Gear Score and for some reason you’re not in a Heroic. Anyway, your overpowered shield will not be destroyed from the damage and Rapture will not proc.
Simple as that.
Second thing I want to point out is this spell – Power Infusion
How to use it? When? On who?
Priority of using Power Infusion on different classes depending from their Haste scaling.
Shadow Priest – They scale off Haste very good.
Affliction Warlock – Execution phase. When boss is lower than 25%
Demonology Warlock – When they activate Metamorphosis
Mages – Stacks with Icy Veins. Stacks with Arcane Power only if Mage uses it after your buff
Elemental Shaman – Not the best decision, but why not. It stacks with Elemental Mastery
Balance Druid – Definitely now your priority target, but it’s better than not using it at all.
